Le Corbusier was born in La Chaux de Fonds, a city of watch industries in Swiss. His father is a watch artisan and his mother is a pianist and music teacher. His true name is Charles Edward Jeaneret. This name was still shown in his paintings. He studied in L'Ecole d'Art when he still young and he chosen to be the most talented in art.
Before he's known as one of the great architect legend in modern era, he was a good painter. He was also active in Purism School, one of ideology that expands from Cubism. Then he established a L'Esprit Nouveau Magazine which he wrote a lot of architecture theories. Le Corbusier idea in architecture world presented studies about ratio from Golden Section, application that descended from ideal human body. The concept called Modular.
Le Corbusier identified the Four Dimension as L'Escape Indicible or "The Invisible Space", even toughthere's no relationship with proportion. According to him, The Invisible Space is a cheerfulness condition where people facing spaces that defined by rows of harmony. Such a Picasso, Le Corbusier always prove himself that he can get out from the conventional boundaries. It was clearly from his masterpiece works such as Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France. This phenomenal idea of design has made this church looks so sacred but has a fascinating spaces, especially with the sphape and the lighting effect inside.
Another phenomenal design from Le Corbusier that still always been discussed and critics everywhere nowadays, related to Modern Architecture, is Vill Savoy. This house appears to be an icon of Modern Architecture if housing. The geometry shap which is floating from the ground has intercepted by the idea of organic shape in the middle. Villa Savoy and Notre Dame du Haut has took Le Corbusier life as a father of Modern Architecture. His logic of design made a great contribution to architectural idea after his generation.
